Spa and Hot Tub Builders in California

A spa or hot tub can be built into a pool as a raised or attached spa, or installed as a separate unit. California licenses pool contractors under the C-53 classification, and the licensing board describes that work as constructing swimming pools, spas or hot tubs. Many pool builders offer it.

When you compare bids, check that the spa is itemized, with its size, its heater and its controls, and ask whether it shares equipment with the pool. A spa is part of the same permit as a new or remodeled pool, so ask your builder what safety features the permit will require. The builders below state spa or hot tub work on their own websites. Look up each license at cslb.ca.gov and ask for recent local projects that include a spa.
